1. Receive a replacement BDR and preform an appliance-to-appliance migration

NOTE: To receive a replacement BDR and preform an appliance-to-appliance migration, this option requires the source appliance to be healthy.

The advantages of this option:

  1. Users do not need to start replication over or re-seed.
  2. A large internet circuit is not needed.

The disadvantages of this option:

  1. Backups and replication must be disabled while each system is migrated.
  2. This process requires two trips to the customer’s site.

Please refer to the following KB Article for more information on this option:

2. Receive a replacement BDR and preform a vault recovery

NOTE: To receive a replacement BDR and perform a vault recovery, this option requires a larger internet circuit.

The advantages of this option:

No need to start replication over or re-seed.

  1. Requires only one trip to the customer’s site.
  2. Can be used when the original appliance is offline or unhealthy.

The disadvantages of this option:

  1. Backups and replication must be disabled while each system is migrated.
  2. RTO dependent on internet performance.

Please refer to the following KB article for more information on this option:

How to recover a protected system from the vault to a new appliance

3. Receive SSD drives and perform a manual swap out

NOTE: This will create a new storage pool.

The advantages of this option:

  1. This is the fastest option to get backups going; 10 minutes after the drives are in, backups can start.
  2. This only requires one trip to the customer’s site if you do not need to seed.
  3. This option can be used with vault recovery, and not lose historic data with a fast internet circuit.
  4. Can be used when the original appliance is offline or unhealthy.

The disadvantages of this option:

  1. Without vault recovery, the option will require backups and replication will start over.

Please refer to the following KB article for more information on this option:

How to Perform a Vault Recovery (Recover a protected system on a vault back to an appliance)
