Looking for help converting an existing appliance agent to Direct-to-Cloud (D2C)?

Steps to convert a Direct-to-Cloud endpoint to appliance mode

There are situations when you may choose to migrate a Direct-to-Cloud system "back" to an appliance-based mode. (For example, in the event you are recovering from a Cloud failover back to an on-premises appliance.)

To convert a Direct-to-Cloud endpoint back to an appliance, perform the following steps:

STEP 1. Deploy an appliance provisioned for the customer

For assistance installing and configuring appliances, refer to Appliance setup and first-time login

When deploying (or reinstalling) a new or existing appliance to a customer, you must first add a location and endpoints for the Direct-to-Cloud client:

1.1. Log into the license portal at licensing.replibit.com
1.2. Select the Clients tab on the left, select the desired client and select Add Location at the top.
1.3. Input a location and click Add.
1.4. Select the Licenses tab on the left.
1.5. For the client, select Manage on the right.
1.6. Select Add Endpoint License.
1.7. Input the number and type of endpoints needed and click Submit.

STEP 2. Perform an incremental vault-to-appliance recovery

See Incremental Vault Recovery for detailed instructions

STEP 3. Confirm that backup and replication are running

3.1. After converting a Direct-to-Cloud endpoint to appliance mode, the appliance will automatically select to run a Full Backup as the next backup job.

This "Full Backup" is forced to sync any possible differences between the protected system and backup data.  (Don’t worry: Blocks that are actually changed will be sent to the server, and no new full image will be consumed on the backup pool.)

Subsequent backups will be incremental, as usual.

3.2. Verify that backups are completed successfully.

3.3. Verify that new backups are replicated to the vault.

If your appliance has failed entirely, or if the appliance storage pool has failed, you can recover protected systems from the vault to a new appliance. Full details are available at How to recover a protected system from the vault to a new appliance.
