Set or change an access password for a protected system - x360Recover

Overview

For added security, x360Recover supports the assignment of an access password on individual protected systems.

Systems with such a password assigned require you to enter that password whenever you wish to recover data or make configuration changes for the endpoint.

From time-to-time, you may wish to change an existing protected system password, or set a password for a system that was not previously configured with an access password.

Note: Password changes will be immediately updated on the appliance or vault to which the agent is attached. Replication of password changes to Recover Manager may take up to 1 (one)  hour to complete.

To add, remove, or change the password assigned to a protected system, follow these steps:

Note: If the protected system is offline and you need to reset a protected system password for a disaster recovery scenario, please contact Axcient Support for assistance.

Windows agents

1. Log in to the Windows protected system as a user with Administrator permissions.

2. Open a Windows PowerShell session. Important: You must right-click and select ‘Run as Administrator’ when launching PowerShell.

3. Change the directory to the agent installation folder.

4. Run Set-PSPassword.ps1 and follow the prompts to change the password.

Entering a blank value for the password will remove the password for the system.

Linux agents

1. Log in to the Linux protected system as a user with root user or sudo permissions.

2. From a terminal session, run the agent executable with the parameter --set-password and the new password encapsulated in quotes

For example:

sudo xcloud-agent --set-password “NewPassword"

Entering a blank value for the password (in the form “”) will remove the password for the system.

Important note: You must execute the command with root permissions.

Either (a) login or su (switch user) to root, or (b) use ‘sudo’ to elevate the command.

Note: On Linux, the xcloud-agent binary is located in /usr/bin and is included in the default path. You don’t need to prefix the command with an explicit path to the agent binary.

macOS agents

1. Log in to the macOS protected system.

2. From the Utilities menu within Finder, launch Terminal.

3. Within Terminal, change the directory to the agent installation folder by entering

cd /Library/xCloudAgent/Contents/bin

4. Run the agent executable with the command-line option --set-password and the new password encapsulated in quotes.

For example:

 sudo xcloud-agent --set-password “NewPassword”

Entering a blank value for the password (in the form “”) will remove the password for the system.

Important note: You must execute the command with root permission using ‘sudo’ to elevate the command. The ‘sudo’ command will require that you enter your user password for authorization. Your user account must be configured as an Administrator on the system.
